About

Crater Coffee was born in Parys, a small Free State town, located within the Vredefort Dome world heritage area, where a meteor struck Earth, leaving a massive crater in its wake. Our hometown Parys and the Penny-farthing bicycle used in our logo were both derived from Paris in France. We are a proudly South African company.

Our Coffee

Artisan coffee roasting is a marriage of science and sensibility. The science involves controlling the roasting medium via the roaster’s knowledge of the roasting machine, the raw product (green beans) and the roaster’s visual and tasting sensibility. Brewing methods also greatly enhance the flavour of your brew; in fact, it’s the brewing methods that tend to be the hallmark of a great artisan coffee.

Our blends were developed to ensure that they cater for both the day-to-day coffee drinker, as well as the coffee connoisseur. We’re always looking for that something special in every cup, thereby living up to our motto – “where coffee is more than just a drink”.

Awards

The Aurora International Taste Challenge was established to recognise and award food and drinks excellence internationally.

The Challenge is an international event held annually and this year South Africa was chosen to host the event.

Crater Coffees was honored to receive a Silver Award for our Route 59 Coffee Beans in this years Aurora International Taste Challenge!

Our Choc Noir Coffee Beans received a rave review from the Coffee Magazine a fabulous monthly publication:

“The espresso extraction was bang-on perfect and filled our espresso cup with a rich, viscous shot and a lovely thick crema on top. We experienced a tart raspberry sweetness, medium body and medium acidity – with hints of dark chocolate. But where this blend shines is in its pairing with luxurious full cream milk, kicking through to give a velvety mouthfeel and a flavour experience of chocolate-covered raisins and fresh fruit cake. Yum!”
